SIM / eSIM
A physical SIM uses a removable card; eSIM uses a supported downloaded profile. Both represent subscription credentials. Neither one guarantees device compatibility or active service.
IMEI / ICCID
IMEI identifies mobile equipment. ICCID identifies a SIM or profile. Use these identifiers privately with official carrier processes rather than publishing them.
MNO / MVNO
A network operator runs mobile infrastructure. A virtual provider uses network-access arrangements to offer service. The retail brand can set its own product and support conditions.
Porting / transfer PIN
Porting moves an eligible number between providers. A transfer PIN is a credential used where required to authorize that move. It can differ from an ordinary account PIN.
Throttling / deprioritization
Throttling commonly refers to a speed reduction under a policy. Deprioritization changes relative access when capacity is busy. Read the actual plan wording rather than treating the two as identical.
APN / VoLTE / Wi-Fi Calling
An APN relates to mobile-data connectivity settings. VoLTE carries supported voice over LTE. Wi-Fi Calling uses an internet connection under the carrier’s supported calling arrangement. Each still depends on device and service support.
